THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MINISTRY FOR WOMEN

1977

A working group on women was set up to study the feasibility of providing Christian drug rehab
service for women and to distribute tracts in the red light districts and to provide individual counselling.
1980 The drug and prostitution problem among women was getting more serious. We hired the first
worker to start the work.
September 1981 A training centre was set up in Tai Long Bay in Sai Kung. In mid-October, we started to provide
services. Trainee had to complete a 12-month programme, nine months in the rehab centre
and three in the halfway house in Fung Wong Sun Tsuen.
1985 The place in Tai Long Bay was taken back by the landlord. The rehab centre was merged with
the halfway house and it was moved in Fo Tan, Shatin.
January 1996

From the turn of 1990s, the number
of drug addicts among women was
increasing and the age of the offenders
was dropping. In order to help more,
the women moved into the boys'
halfway house (in Lei Muk Shue)
which was bigger and the boys
into Fo Tan.

1997

At the beginning of the year, the
government gave us a place in
Tai Mei Tuk to develop the women's
ministry. We moved in there in August.
There are two places for the work now.
